Psychedelic Therapy Training for Research Teams: the Clinical Intensive Course

Research in psychedelic medicines for various mental health conditions recognises the crucial input of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PAT) carried out by well-trained clinicians.

Most well-designed and high-quality courses in psychedelic-assisted therapy not only encompass rigorous academic and knowledge-based components but also provide a robust practical training module, equipping clinicians to proficiently administer psychedelic therapy.

At PIA, we understand that many research teams are composed of highly knowledgeable and clinically seasoned individuals who possess a strong foundation in academic theory. Their primary requirement lies in acquiring advanced practical skills through an intensive course in psychedelic therapy training.

While PIA can offer teams full clinical psychedelic therapy training, including the essential practical component, we can also deliver our Clinical Intensive Course as a separate module. This includes:

  • How to carry out the research according to approved protocols

  • How to set up and maximise the benefits of set and setting

  • How to prepare research participants for the experience

  • Supporting and taking the participants through the psychedelic experience

  • Managing difficult or challenging experiences that may arise

  • Having a clear understanding of potential risks and their management

  • Thorough integration after the experience

  • Maximising benefits gained and guiding participants towards making real change in their lives moving forward

  • Collaboration with the wider research team

  • Maximising the clinicians’ own personal growth and professional development through this process, as well as managing any challenges.
